HDTV over the air reception with UHF-only antenna? - vhf antenna 40 miles and a pre-amp
I live in San Jose, CA and want to get more, the air HDTV broadcasts. I take care of all the local channels from the scope of the Sutro Tower in San Francisco and San Bruno Mountain, 35 transferred to 40 kilometers. From my location in the west of San José, they are all between 305 to 310 degrees azimuth, after antennaweb.org.
This seems a highly directional Yagi or the Bay of multiple antennas network should work correctly. However, most compact UHF antenna only. It works well for all but the local NBC, which broadcast on VHF Channel 12 plans. My question is: If I can still receive the station reliably only with a UHF antenna. My house has two floors, so I can get up the antenna, but wanted to avoid a large VHF / UHF, which would require a mast and shrouds.

If the conversion to digital is complete, it will know all the channels in the UHF band, as we have them. Not more channels 2-13. You should be very good with only a decent UHF antenna for digital or HD channels.
To get a signal over the air HD, you need to get close enough to get a clear signal to local stations, and secondly, you need a high-definition antenna acquire outside.
